George Julius Marquis, 85, died on his birthday, March 9, 2010, with his family by his side in Hilmar. He was born March 9, 1925 in Tarpley, Texas to Julius and Ima Marquis. He enlisted in the Navy after high school and was mostly stationed in Japan. After his 20 year career in the Navy as Specialist 2nd Class E-5, he worked for Hershey’s Chocolate plant in Oakdale for 19 years. He settled in Hilmar 12 years ago. He attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Turlock. He loved to walk and ride his bicycle all over the town of Hilmar.
He is survived by his daughter, Georgena Ann Baker of Delhi; one grandchild; and four great grandchildren.
