George Warren Nixon passed away Dec. 23, 2009, at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson.
He was born and raised in Denair and was the son of the late Frank and Constance Nixon. He attended Denair public schools and graduated from Denair High School. Mr. Nixon received his associates degree from Modesto Junior College. He was a gunnery specialist instructor for the United States Navy in the Catalina Islands. After his honorable discharge from the service, he opened a gun shop in Oakland where he sold and manufactured guns of all types. In addition to owning the gun shop, he worked 35 years as a machinist for American Rubber Manufacturing Company in Emeryville, Calif. He had a passion for airplanes, sport cars and guns.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Nixon, of Turlock; nephews, Frank L. Nixon III of Reno, Nick Nixon of Boulder City, Michael Nixon of Denair and Donnie Whiteis of Alabama. He is also survived by his niece, Polly Johnston of Turlock.
