Grant Fox, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away after a short illness at age 78 on Dec. 19, 2010 at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson.
Born in Turlock at the Collins Hospital, Grant, except for when he was in the U.S. Air Force, lived in Delhi until 1999, at which time he and his wife, Alice, moved to Turlock.
Grant was preceded in death by his parents, Walter W. Fox, a native of California, and Berenice F. Shelley Fox, a native of Pennsylvania.
Grant graduated from Delhi Grammar School in 1945 and Livingston High School in 1949, a class that was proud to represent the 100th anniversary of the 49ers of California Gold Rush fame. During the Korean War, he served honorably in the U.S. Air Force. While based in Denver, Colo., he met Alice Weber, a registered nurse from Holstein, Neb. Grant and Alice were married on Oct. 19, 1954.
Returning to Delhi in 1955, Grant farmed with his father and, shortly thereafter, became Delhi’s postmaster, a position he held for 29 years. After retiring as postmaster, he continued to farm the Delhi home ranch that his father purchased in 1925.
Through the years, Grant was active in many community organizations, including Delhi-Ballico Lions Club, Livingston Lions Club and Delhi Volunteer Fire Department. Additionally, he belonged to the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, California Almond Growers Exchange, Cortez Growers Association, Sons in Retirement #143 and American Legion. He served for many years on the Reunion Committee of the Livingston High School Class of 1949. He and Alice were members of Livingston’s St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church and later Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Turlock. Together they enjoyed the many activities of the Boots and Slippers Square Dance Club, All Seasons RV Club and Delhi-Ballico-Cortez Seniors.
Grant and Alice traveled extensively, first with their children and later on numerous cruises as well as many RV journeys across the U.S. Most enjoyable were the trips to visit their many family members.
