Harry was born a Packer fan in Green Bay, Wisconsin to Theresa and Frank Gillis.  He served in the South Pacific during World War II.  After the war he returned to Green Bay to attend St. Norbert College and graduated with a degree in English and Journalism.  Harry had a 29-year teaching career.  He married Esther Mae Schmelling on March 6, 1945 while on military leave. Harry moved to Covenant Village of Turlock in 2009 and resided there until going to be with God.

He is survived by his children Tom Foolery of Dillon, MT, Sheila (Steve) Sauer of Grand Coulee, WA, Cyndi (John) Sims of Turlock and Joel Gillis of Bend, OR; brother Alton (Jackie) Gillis of Green Bay, WI; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to National Parkinson Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.

Celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 11:00a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 2619 N Berkeley Avenue in Turlock.
