Harold Estes, 57, of Turlock, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday. He was born in Fresno and raised in Delhi. Since early in his life, Harold was interested in outdoor living: hunting, fishing and living off the land. At one time he was even given the nickname “Mountain” reflecting his love for the mountains. He worked as a handyman and did odd jobs, sold firewood, and supported himself in a variety of ways in order to spend more time in the outdoors that he loved.
Harold was known to his eight nieces and nephews as “Uncle Butch.” They loved spending time with him because he knew how to play and have a good time. It was a mutual admiration between them.
He is survived by his mother, Lula Grissom of Turlock; sisters, Debbie (Phil) Browning of Delhi and Becky (Mark) Bromley of Hilmar; step-sisters, Virginia Texiera of Merced and Peggy Johnston of Kentucky; step-brother, Ronnie Grissom of Winton; and eight nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by step-brother, Jimmie Grissom.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7 at Allen Mortuary.
Memorials may be considered in Harold’s name to Merced Rescue Mission, 1921 Canal St., Merced, CA 95340. Arrangements are entrusted to Allen Mortuary. Please leave memories and condolences at www.allenmortuary.com.
