Harriette Johnson, 88, of Turlock passed away on Sunday, Feb. 21 in Modesto. She was born in Buhl, Idaho to Thomas and Alta Holmes in 1921. Harriette attended Colorado Women’s College in Denver, Colo. and worked for the U.S. Navy Convalescent Hospital in Kethum, Idaho. She met Alfred Grimes there and in 1944, they moved to Lodi, Calif. In 1950, she moved to Turlock and lived in the area since that time. She was married to Algott Johnson in 1962. He passed away in 1987. She worked for Memorial Hospital for 20 years as the head of medical records and then worked for Turlock Medical Clinic as a medical transcriptionist for 13 years. She retired at the age of 70. Harriette was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Turlock VFW Post #5059, which she was a past president three times and a past president of the 13th District. She also enjoyed bowling.
Harriette is survived by her children, Dolores Baker of Cheyenne, Wyo. and Alfred H. Grimes; and grandchild, Michael Grimes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Algott Johnson; and sister, Dolores Benson.  
A celebration of life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 24 at the Turlock VFW Post #5059, with reception following. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ladies Auxiliary of Turlock VFW Post #5059, 1405 E. Linwood Ave., Turlock, CA 95380.
