Hazel Cook, 87, of Turlock, passed away at Alexander Cohen Hospice House. Hazel was born in Haskell TX to William and Susie Atchison. She graduated from high school in Texas before moving to California in 1946. She married Lawrence Cook in January of 1945 in Oakland CA. Her husband was in the Navy and Hazel was the homemaker and Mom for their three children. She also worked for the Turlock Journal in the advertising department for 17 years. Hazel loved her family. She liked to bake and cook; she enjoyed reading, gardening, and playing softball. She and Lawrence escaped to the coast as often as they could. In earlier years she belonged to the Pinochle Club in Turlock.
  Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lawrence in 2011, her daughter Kathleen Vargas, and by her brothers, Hulen, Horice, Denton and her sister, Alice Holmgren. She is survived by her three children: Christy (Lynn) Goldsmith, Ronald (Lee) Cook, and Nina (Jerry) Russell, all of Turlock; three siblings: Gerald Atchison of Livingston, Rex Atchison of Las Vegas NV, and Dana Gilbertson of Turlock, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
  Visitation will be at Allen Mortuary on Friday, Feb 21st from 4 to 6 pm. A Graveside Service is scheduled for Turlock Memorial Park on Saturday, Feb 22nd at 11 am.
