Hilda Mae Desper was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on May 4, 1918. She was married to Sherm Desper a   barber, for many years. Hilda worked for Armours and Woolworths before going to work at Penguins Ice Cream, where she worked for about 20 years. She moved to Iowa to take care of her sick father.  After his death, she moved back to Turlock and went to work for the Senior Lunch Program and   volunteered at the Salvation Army and other volunteer programs. She was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Women’s Auxiliary. Hilda achieved many awards from various programs, but the most exciting for her were the certificates she received from Gary Condit, Curt Andre, Grey Davis, Dennis Cardoza, Jeff Denham, and the governor of Iowa. Hilda was active and willing to help others at any time.
She is survived by her son, Richard Desper (Laverne); 11 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherm. She was loved by all and will be missed.
 Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 24 at Allen Mortuary. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Friday, June 25, also at Allen Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Emanuel, 825 Delbon Ave., Turlock; Stanford Emanuel Oncology Center, 880 East Tuolumne Rd., Turlock; or the Salvation Army, 893 Lander Ave., Turlock.
