J. Guadalupe Mercado, 69, of Delhi, peacefully entered the presence of the Lord on Nov. 27. A viewing is scheduled from 12 noon to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3, with a holy rosary to follow at 6 p.m. at Turlock Funeral Home, 425 N. Soderquist Rd. A mass in his honor will be celebrated at 12 noon on Friday, Dec. 4, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1200 Lyons Ave. in Turlock. Interment will take place at a later date in Jalisco, Mexico.
Mr. Mercado, or Don Lupe, as everyone knew him, was born in La Cañada, Jalisco, Mexico, to Francisco Mercado and Justa Martinez. He immigrated with his family to California in 1986, and retired from dairy farm work in 1996. He will be remembered as a happy, extremely family-oriented, humble, honest and forthright, hard-working man who persevered in and accomplished anything he set his mind to.
Don Lupe was an avid and firm believer in God and was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time in his beloved native Mexico as often as he had opportunity as well as spending time surrounded by his family all the time. He truly liked mariachi and banda music.
Don Lupe is survived and will be highly missed by his wife of almost 50 years, Maria de Jesus; sons, Cruz, Lupe, Mario, Eleazar, Marco, Chuy and their respective wives; daughters, Rosa, Yolanda, Teresa, Sandra and their respective husbands; brothers, Manuel, Salvador and Rodolfo; sisters, Petra, Dolores, Maria and Silvia; 22 beautiful grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends who loved and respected him.
