James D. Ross, Jr., a longtime Turlock resident, passed away on July 22, 2017 at his home at Samaritan Village. 

He was 95. 

James Dalgliesh Ross, Jr., was born in Winfield, Kansas to James and Thresa Ross, on January 20, 1922. 

He met the love of his life, Eleanor Dale Moore, as a childhood neighbor in Pacoima near San Fernando, CA, they were married in the Van Nuys Missionary Church in June of 1942.

He served in WWII as a Corporal Flight Engineer in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1942-1945. He worked at Lockheed Aircraft in Southern Calif. and retired from Farmers Insurance Group in 1985, after 28 years. He and Eleanor then traveled with MMAP an organization of retired couples who traveled around helping to build churches and Christian organizations.

He loved and served the Lord, sharing Jesus with many. Jim was a life member of the Gideons for over fifty years and a member of Turlock Kiwanis Club serving as District Lt. Governor, President and Secretary.

Jim is preceded in death by his wife Eleanor Dale Ross, siblings: Robert Ross, D. Lee Ross and Margaret Knowles and his granddaughter, Robin Boyd. Jim is survived by his children: Sharon Meier (Duane) of Truckee, Elizabeth Jones (Dennis) of Denair, and James Ross (Claudia) of Turlock, his grandchildren: Kim Jonson (Brent) of Turlock, Stephanie West (Dan) of Woodland, Torey Jones (Tiffany) of Clovis, Debra Thompson (Sean) of Sacramento, Amy Fair (Jeremiah) of  Scotts Valley and Megan Leikam (Dennis) of Tracy. 

He is also survived by 23 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30am on Friday, August 4th at Turlock Memorial Park.
