LaVerne Birdsong, 85, of Ceres, passed away early Wednesday at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. She was born in Tulia, Texas to Jim and Cora Pearson and attended schools in Texas before moving to California in 1940. She worked for years in the food processing industry and was involved with plant management as well as driving fork lifts.
LaVerne loved square dancing. She enjoyed listening to Country Western music, and she looked forward to spending time eating out with her friends. Worshipping and taking part in church activities were important to her throughout her life until illness kept her away in her later years. She attended Pentecostal churches most of her life.
LaVerne is survived by her daughter, Norma Fisher of Turlock; sister, Joyce Rousseagh, of Texas; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tyson Birdsong; and her daughter, Carolyn Mello.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, April 5 at Allen Mortuary. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Tyson, at a graveside service at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6 at Hills Ferry Cemetery in Newman. Please leave memories and condolences at www.allenmortuary.com.
