James William Ball Shade, age 99, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, in Turlock, California.

Born December 07, 1926. Jim was raised in Salem, Oregon.

Jim lived a long and accomplished life marked by dedication, service, and integrity. He proudly served in the United States Navy, an experience that reflected his strong sense of duty and love for his country.

Jim went on to build a distinguished career as an AIA Architect, leaving behind a legacy of work that stands as a testament to his talent, professionalism, and commitment to excellence. His contributions to architecture and his community earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and neighbors alike.

Outside of his career, Jim had a passion for flying and held his pilots license, embracing the freedom of the skies. He also enjoyed golfing and was deeply involved in his church, where his faith and fellowship were an important part of his life.

He was known as a hardworking, professional, and kind man who was very active in his community. Jim was well–liked and widely known, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife Patricia J. Shade. He is survived by his two daughters, Nanci Lovitt of Sedalia, Missouri, and Carol Alameda of Turlock, CA, seven grandchildren, nine great–grandchildren, and two great–great–grandchildren, all of whom will carry forward his legacy with love and pride.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Calvary Chapel 147 S. Broadway, Turlock, CA.
