Joan Clements was taken home by her Heavenly Father on Dec. 20, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born to Sheldon and Paulyne Decker on Aug. 5, 1938 in Stockton, Joan graduated from Turlock High in 1956. In 1957, she married Sheldon Clements who was on staff with Youth for Christ. She obtained a teaching credential from Fullerton State College while growing a family and serving with Sheldon in Christian ministries. Widowed at 38, Joan continued to raise their five children while directing public relations for World Opportunities Intl. for more than 20 years. In this role, Joan had the privilege of traveling with her children and visiting missionaries internationally.  Joan was an exuberant woman with boundless energy for her family, friends, and inner-city under-privileged children. She has left behind a living legacy as a follower of Jesus Christ.
Survivors include her older siblings, Lois Miller (Mel), Paula Boulware and John Decker (Connie); her children Colleen, Kevin, Karen, Colette and Christopher and their loving spouses; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and an extended family of adoring nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life was held on Jan. 9 at First Christian Church in Huntington Beach. A private internment took place at Pacific View Memorial Park, Corona Del Mar. If you would like to make a charitable donation in Joan’s memory, her family suggests helpthechildren.org.
