Joe C Willemse, age 81, of Hughson, California passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, December 31, 2017-exactly 60 years from the date he first arrived in the United States. Joe was born July 5,1936 in Noordwijkerhout, the Netherlands to John and Marie Willemse. He was a hard working almond farmer in Hughson for over 40 years. Joe was a sharp card player and an avid collector of coins and stamps. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his precious grandchildren.   He leaves behind many loved ones including his wife of almost 55 years, Josie Willemse; son Michael Willemse (Sylvia) of Modesto; son Steve Willemse of Hughson; daughter Rosanne Cantwell (Mike) of Turlock; daughter Monique Atkins (Sean) of Larchmont, New York; grandchildren David, Kaci and Erika Myers; Rebecca Willemse; Riley and Sidney Cantwell; and Finnegan, Marlise, Dacey and Taryn Atkins; great grandchild Jacob Myers; as well as two brothers and four sisters all living in the Netherlands. Joe was preceded in death by his parents John and Marie Willemse, one sister and four brothers.

Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the Community Hospice Foundation, 4368 Spires Way, Modesto, California 95356.  Visitation will be held for Joe from 5:00-7:00 PM on Monday, January 8, 2018 with a recitation of the Rosary immediately following at Whitehurst-Norton-Dias Funeral Service at 286 W. Main Street, Turlock. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church: 7820 Fox Road, Hughson.
