Joe Faria, 88, of Hilmar, passed away on Oct. 10, 2010, in Hughson surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on March 6, 1922, in Faial, Azores. He moved with his family to the United States from Faial, Azores in 1968 and settled in Hilmar. Joe worked in the dairy business.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Maria de Faria of Hilmar; sons, Joe Faria of San Jose and Manuel Faria, Tony Faria, Luis Faria, John Faria, all of Hilmar, Carlos Faria and Eddie Faria of Turlock; daughters, Maria Connie Faria of Hilmar and Cathy Silva of Turlock; sister, Maria Rosa of San Jose; 16 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 17 at Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Funeral Chapel, 286 W. Main St., Turlock. A Vigil/Rosary will be held at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 17 at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, 2602 S. Walnut Ave., Turlock. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 18 at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church. It will be officiated by Father Manuel F. Sousa. Interment to follow Mass at Turlock Memorial Park Mausoleum.
