John Wesley Nelson, 67, of Turlock, passed away after a valiant fight with cancer.

John Nelson served as a teacher and administrator for over 45 years at Livingston High School, Pitman High School, and Turlock Christian. Additionally, John served as a minister of music at Crossroads Evangelical Free Church of Turlock for almost 40 years.
John attended Trinity College in Deerfield, Ill. and was part of the first class to graduate from Stanislaus State University with a degree in Music Education.

He is survived by his loving wife, Christine; sister, Mary Lou Cederlend; son, Bryan (Erin); daughter, Colleen Blomenkamp (Joel); grandchildren, Cassie Alldrin (21), Cody Alldrin (18), Carter Nelson (11), Camille Nelson (9), Derek Blomenkamp (11), Micah Blomenkamp (9) and Allison Blomenkamp (7); great grandson, Caden Alldrin (4); along with many nieces and nephews.
John’s legacy and loss will be felt by all of his students, family and friends. His influence as an educator and administrator is evident throughout the Central Valley. John was an avid fisherman, ardent supporter of Turlock Christian Schools, dedicated choir director at Crossroads Church, and devoted family man. We will miss his integrity, wisdom, unmatched professionalism, determination, trips to June Lake, boisterous laugh and godly attributes that will span for generations to come.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. today at Crossroads Evangelical Free Church with burial following at Turlock Memorial Park.
