Born to Everett and Helen Ulrich in Wewoka, OK, the family moved to Livingston when Joe was two years old. Joe attended Livingston schools through high school, where he excelled in football, baseball, basketball, and track. He held the school record there in the 220-yard dash for many years.
Joe and Lois Smith, his high school sweetheart, were married on Jan. 29, 1950.
e is survived by Lois; his children, Randy, Dennis (Judy), and Lori Smith (Jim); five grandchildren, Mark Ulrich, Troy Ulrich, Matt Ulrich, Nicholas Smith, and Nathan Smith; and eight great-grandchildren, with #9 expected any day.
He is predeceased by his son, Greg; parents, Everett and Helen; brother, Bob; and sisters, Bonnie and Wilma.
Joe began his working career at Bank of America and Retail Credit Association. In 1955, he and Lois purchased the Credit Bureau of Turlock, and both worked there for over 35 years. They then established Ulrich Mortgage Company and worked there for over three years before retiring.
During their days of raising four children there was a lot of camping, the favorite location being Yellowstone Park.
Joe was very active in many capacities in their church, Good Shepherd Lutheran, for over 60 years. He served on the Denair School Board, was a lifetime member, and also president of the Turlock Rotary Club.
Joe loved the Lord, his family, his children, was proud to be an American, and loved strawberry milkshakes.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Fri., June 3, 2022 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
