Turlock

Lawrence Cook, Jr., 86, of Turlock, passed away at Emanuel Medical Center.
Lawrence was born in Holly Springs, Miss. to Lawrence (Sr.) and Christy Cook. The family moved to Waco, Texas, where Lawrence attended schools before joining the Navy during WW2. He married Hazel Atchison in January 1945 in Oakland, CA. They moved to Turlock in 1947, where Lawrence started to work for Turlock Irrigation District. He worked for TID for 40 years before his retirement in 1987.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; and by daughter, Kathleen Vargas, in 1999.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Hazel Cook of Turlock; son, Greg (Lee) Cook of Turlock; daughters, Christy (Lynn) Goldsmith and Nina (Jerry) Russell, both of Turlock; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brothers, Jack Cook of Austin, Texas, and Richard Cook of Waco, Texas; and sister, Betty Rendell of Chicago, Ill.
Visitation for Lawrence will be at Allen Mortuary on Monday, Dec. 26 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Turlock Memorial Park on Tuesday, Dec. 27 at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions are suggested for Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 355 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
