Lawrence Root, Sr. passed away at his home in California City on July 27, 2015 after a lengthy battle with mesothelioma lung cancer.  He was 69 years old.

He was born on April 25, 1946 to Alvro and Joy (Bell) Root in Turlock, CA. and was the oldest of four children.  He grew up in the company of his brothers Rick and Stephen and his sister Paula. He was enlisted in the U.S. Navy for four years, then joined the Army for three years shortly after that. He coached youth football in Mojave for many years and worked a Civil Service job with the Department of Defense at Edwards Air Force Base, before retiring after 35 years of service.  

Lawrence is survived by his wife of 22 years, Beverly Root. He also leaves behind his brothers Stephen and Rick Root, Dave, Mike and Jim Kirkpatrick, sister Paula Counter, sons Larry Jr., Eric, Jason and Joseph Root, Jonathan and Robert Lindsey, daughters Michelle Brignoni and Jeanette Kaltenthaler, along with 26 grandchildren.  He will be missed also by his cousins Jerry and Lonna Root, who valued him more like a brother than a cousin.  He is preceded in death by his mother and father.  

There will be a celebration of his life at the Assembly of God Church in Mojave on August 7th at 10:00 a.m., followed by a ceremony with full military honors at Bakersfield National Cemetary starting at 1:15.
