Visitation for Leona Barkhousen, 88, of Turlock, will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 13 at Allen Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 14 at the Salvation Army followed by a reception. She passed away peacefully Aug. 9, 2009, with her family by her side at her residence in Turlock.
She was born November 1920, in White County, Ark. to the late George and Connie Huddleston. Leona lived in Arkansas until she was reunited with her high school sweetheart, Leonard Barkhousen. After marriage in 1981, they settled in Turlock. Mrs. Barkhousen was employed by the State of Arkansas as a bookkeeper for 40 years. She belonged to the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and the Salvation Army League of Mercy. Her interests included traveling and she enjoyed canning foods.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Daniel, Hans, Leif, Aaron Barkhousen, and Tiffany Brittain; nine great grandchildren; five nieces and nephews; 20 great nieces and nephews; and sons, Leonard Barkhousen Jr. and Wayne Barkhousen.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Barkhousen; brother, Leonard McDoughle; and two sisters, Stella May and Lelia Grey.
