Lois Jean Kain (Votaw), 96, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025, in Grants Pass, Oregon.

Born on March 1, 1929, Lois graduated from Hughson High School and went on to build a fulfilling career with the Ceres Unified School District, where she retired as a cafeteria manager. Her dedication and hard work left a lasting impression on those she served.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband Wesley Kain, her first love, whom she misses dearly. She later found companionship again and is survived by her husband Herbert Votaw. She leaves behind a loving family that includes her five children: Marvin Kain (Linda), Peggy Kain, Mark Kain (Barbara), Matt Kain (Luz), and Morgan Kain. Her legacy continues through her ten grandchildren Wendy Padgett, Denise Palecek, Jennifer Brandenburg, Staci Thornton, Bryan Thornton, Heather Kain, Joshua Kain, Sara Kain–Silveria, Amy Mokres, Zachariah Kain and Michael Kain as well as numerous great–grandchildren and great–great–grandchildren.

Lois loved her family fiercely and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a passion for thrifting and garage sales and treasured every moment spent with her loved ones. Among the most cherished memories are the “grandma days” she shared with her grandchildren adventures filled with spending the day in the park, caching pollywogs in the “crick,” and eating snow cones, and pink popcorn.

A graveside service will be held at Wilderville Cemetery, 5145 Fish Hatchery Road, Grants Pass, Oregon.

Lois’s warmth and devotion to her family will be remembered always. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
