Lon Brunson was not so much a man of great faith…. as he was a man of faith in a GREAT GOD! He was ushered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on December 5, 2014 and is remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend and a humble servant of Jesus Christ.
Lon was born in Mariana, Arkansas to John and Ollie Brunson. He graduated from LeGrand High School in 1955 and joined the United States Army to serve his country. He married the love of his life, Maryann Martin on June 25, 1960. They have celebrated 54 ½ years of happiness together… watching the ocean.
Lon was a firefighter/engineer and emergency medical technician from 1965 until his retirement from CAL-FIRE in 1990, serving over 25 years at the Hilmar Fire Department.
As long as his health permitted, he snow skied, camped, rode dirt bikes, water skied and caught fish alongside Maryann and his best friend, his only son, Michael. His greatest joy was to show the mercy of our Lord through visitation to the ill and elderly members of his church family at Shelter Cove and Turlock Covenant Church. Lon had a passion for studying God’s word and teaching his grandchildren to please and honor God with their lives.
Lon will be greatly missed by his wife, his son, his daughter-in-law, Suzy, granddaughter, Sarah and grandson, Ryan.
A memorial service for this gentle man of integrity will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., at Shelter Cove Community Church, 4242 Coffee Rd., in Modesto.
