Visitation for Lorenzo Quarrell Prieto, 74, will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., Aug. 17 at Hillview Funeral Chapel in Patterson. Interment to follow at Patterson District Cemetery in Patterson. He passed away Aug. 10, 2009, after a short illness.
He was born in Deming, NM to the late Ramon Prieto and Jane Quarrell Prieto. His last employment was at Turlock Medical Clinic as their credit manager from January 1985 to December 1993. As a young man, he joined the United States Air Force on Feb. 8, 1951, and was honorably discharged on May 16, 1953, with a medical disability.
A few years later, he was back on base as a barber at Castle Air Force Base in Atwater from 1958 to 1972 in the NCO, Airman and Officers Clubs. Later he served as a California Correctional Officer at the Jamestown Correctional Facility. He also worked in the sign shop at Yosemite National Park. Lorenzo’s entire family is very musically inclined, and they formed the Prieto Family Band and played many a gig. He was a member of the American Legion Rex Ish Post 88 of Turlock and served as Commander from 1991 to 1992.
He was very well liked and loved by all. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Emily Fialho Mendes Prieto; daughters, Linda Gonzales (David), Sandra Almeida (Gary) and Cindy Andrade (Rafael); grandsons, David Gonzales and Robert Ruiz; step-children, Francis Mendes, David Mendes (Marilyn) and Ann Lovelace (Mike); six step grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; brothers, Raymond Prieto and Joe Prieto; and sisters, Gloria Prieto and Jane Prieto.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Larry Prieto, Jr.
