Lucille Barragan, 91, passed away peacefully on Oct. 19 with her family by her side. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at Whitehurst, Norton & Dias, 286 W. Main Street. A church service will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday at Apostolic Assembly Church, 232 Lander Avenue. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Whitehurst, Norton & Dias.
Lucille was the second of ten children born to Lizandro and Francisca Meza in Baja California, Mexico. She arrived in Turlock with her parents in 1935 and began working in the fields alongside them. She belonged to the Apostolic Assembly Church and was one of the first pillars in establishing the local church.
She was very active in the Dorcas Society and worked for Turlock Community Hospital for 14 years. After retiring, Lucille dedicated her life to the Lord and enjoyed her grandchildren.
She lived an amazing life. She was a traveler, a hard worker, a loving mother, a caring wife and the best grandma her grandchildren could ask for. She loved her birds and dogs with all her heart, and never a day went by without spending time on her yard. Her home was always open to family, where she had fresh homemade tortillas, beans, and coffee. She never hesitated in helping others and always trusted in the Lord for everything. We will miss her dearly.
She is survived by her four sons, Guillermo (Willie) Barragan Jr. and wife Karen, Hector Barragan, Oscar Barragan, Harry Barragan and wife Kathy; her grandchildren, Sara, Michelle and Brady Barragan; siblings, Daniel Meza of San Diego, Rebecca Beltram of Bakersfield and Ralph Meza and Lydia Gallardo, both of Turlock. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Guillermo Barragan.
