Maria Rosario Avina, 80, of Modesto, died Nov. 13.  She was born in Jalisco, Mexico in 1930.

Maria was a homemaker for six years and a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church of Hughson. She enjoyed singing, family events and Mass and religious activities.

She is survived by her sons, Rafael Avina and his wife, Flora of Modesto, Roberto Avina and his wife, Victoria of Modesto, Pedro Avina of Modesto, Pablo Avina and his wife, Ramona of Modesto and Armando Avina and his wife, Araceli of Modesto; daughters, Maria Guadalupe Meza and her husband, Reyes of Turlock, Martha Avina and her husband, Ramiro of Mexico and Antonia Vallecillo and her husband, Luis of Empire; 36 grandchildren; and 44 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cristoval Avina on March 23, 2002.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 18 at Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Funeral Chapel. Rosary will be held 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov.18, also at Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Funeral Chapel, 286 West Main St., Turlock. A Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 19 at St Anthony Catholic Church, 2020 Euclid Ave., Hughson. Burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Park
