Reba Maxine DeVore Morrow Wright went to be with Jesus on Thursday, Dec. 24, with her children by her side.
She was born in Big Piney, Mo. and was known by nine aunts and uncles as the “Pride of Big Piney.” The first child of Bill and Blanche DeVore, she came to Ceres when she was 18 months old and lived and worked there most of her life. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, wife and friend to a multitude of people who loved her. Her passing will leave a hole in the lives of many. Her greatest joys in life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Committed to serving others, primarily by cooking for them, she leaves a legacy of jam making, pie making and just good food that most will not forget. Cooking for others was truly one of the passions of her life. She served her Church for many years by manning the kitchen for countless Thanksgiving Feasts, pot lucks, funerals and feeding the homeless. She also made baby quilts for grandchildren and great grandchildren, some of whom are yet to be born.
She is survived by husband, Charles E. Wright; daughter, Lois and her husband, Ben, Pettit; son, Daryl and his wife, Pat, Morrow; grandchildren, Kevin (Lia) Pettit of Washington, Chris (Jobie) Tacker of Turlock, Kelli (Ted) Thorp of Idaho and Alisa (James) Ainslie of South Dakota. She is also survived by extended family, Gary (Judy) Wright, Stanley (Carrie) Wright, Jim (Sachiko) Wright and Diana (Ken) Seifarth. She leaves a multitude of grandchildren and great grandchildren who will miss her greatly.
Maxine was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond "Red" Morrow; brother, Chester DeVore; and sister, Juanita (Al) Buchanan.
A celebration of Maxine’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30 at Allen Mortuary. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park. Remembrances may be made to Hospice of Emanuel, 825 Delbon Ave., Turlock, CA 95382, or Sunrise Christian Church, 1000 E. Monte Vista Ave., Turlock, CA 95382.
