Natalino “Natal” Jesus Brasil Moules, was born on December 19th 1956, in São Mateus, Terceira, Acores to parents Maria C. Brasil and José F. Moules.

Natal passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 18th 2022 in Santa Nella, California at the ranch in Santa Nella that he shared with his fiancée Cindy McDowell who was by his side.

Natal emigrated from the Acores with his parents and siblings in the 1970s.

The family settled in Watsonville and Natal rose to prominence in the community as a cattle rancher, vintner and winery owner, professional sport fisherman and flower grower.

He formed a partnership with Dean Johnsen with whom he built a successful business, Johnsen’s Nursery. After Dean passed away, Natal continued to operate the nursery for several years with Dean’s children, growing roses and several varieties of cut flowers.

It was during this time that Natal met the love of his life, Cindy McDowell, with whom he spent many years.

Natal and Cindy shared their love of animals, especially horses, dogs and cattle and in 2016 together they invested in a ranch in Santa Nella where they pursued their passion for breeding and raising cattle.

They created the business Ganaderia de San Mateus raising bulls for the Portuguese bloodless bullfights, rode horses and started building their dream home.

Natal and Cindy made many friends in the Central Valley as well as all over the nation and globe and he will be truly missed by all.

Natal was preceded in death by his father José F. Moules. Natal is survived by his fiancée Cindy McDowell, his mother, Maria C. Brasil Moules, his siblings Joseph and Antonio Moules and Elvira Nascimento, four children Elizabeth Souza, Dean Moules, Eugene Moules, Breanna Moules, 6 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers or candles, if you wish you may plant a tree in the name of Natal Moules –

American Forests - Memorial Tree.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date in the hills he loved so much.
