Nathan "Soupy" Edward Gossett

Aug. 24, 1937 – Nov. 6, 2010 

Nathan E. Gossett, 73, passed away in his home on Nov. 6 in Livingston.  Mr. Gossett was born on Aug. 24, 1937, in Red Oak, Oklahoma, but spent most of his life in Modesto and had resided in Livingston for the past six years.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 through 1957 in Bordeaux, France.  He also served in the California National Guard. 

Most people knew him by his nickname, “Soupy” for most of his life.  Soupy was a professional musician and played music in many nightclubs in the Modesto area for 40 years.  He valued his many friends as he valued his family.  Always the life of the party, Soupy loved to cook, socialize and have his family and friends around him at all times.  It was the people that were closest to his heart that made his life so fulfilling.  

Soupy is survived by his wife of 29 years, Mary Gossett of Livingston; sons Nathan E. Gossett Jr. of Oakdale and David LaMott of Pleasanton; daughters RandyAnn Radabaugh of Modesto, Johnna Kiernan of Stent and Julie Massone of Hughson. Soupy is survived by 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Soupy is preceded in death by his father Eugene V. Gossett; mother Grace L. Gossett; brother Bill Gossett; sisters Pauline Scott, Jean Smith and Dorothy Seutter.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11 at Allen Mortuary. There will be a private burial at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno. Memorial contributions may be made to Hinds Hospice, P.O. Box 763, Merced, CA 95341.
