Nova Menzies, 89, was born to Robert and Mary Wattle in Caruthersville, MO. They moved to Indio, Calif. after World War II and then soon moved on to Turlock. Nova worked in the food service industry and at a local doughnut shop for years. In 1976, she married Vernon Menzies and together they worked long days six days a week to keep the Penguin Ice Cream Company going. They traveled around in their own plane when they were able to take breaks from their work schedule. They belonged to the Turlock VFW.
Nova is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vernon. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7 at Allen Mortuary, followed by a private inurnment at a later date.
