Oleta “Lee” Van Sickle, 87, of Turlock, entered into rest on Dec. 22.
Lee met her husband at the Presidio in San Francisco where he was a military police officer and she transported soldiers. They married in 1945, and spent their honeymoon camping and hunting. She loved the outdoors, whether it be the mountains or the beach. She was an incredible wife and mother. She was a licensed vocational nurse who cared deeply about her patients and inspired a love for nursing in her grandchildren who have followed in her footsteps. She was curious and embraced knowledge. You could ask her anything and she would have an answer for you. She loved to paint and garden and was a great cook. Keeping up with all the grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities and accomplishments brought her great joy. She will be remembered for her kindness, gentle spirit and, most of all, for her love for her family.
She was a loving wife of 64 years to Ellis Van Sickle of Turlock. She is also survived by her children, Ron Van Sickle and his wife, Becky, of Homer, Ark. and Donna Thiel and her husband, Paul, of Fremont; grandchildren, Paige and her husband, Larry, Tammy, Rebecca, Mindy and her husband, Thomas, Amy, and Megan and her husband, Porfirio; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon.
