Pat was born in San Francisco on April 4, 1950 to Ken and Bea Young and passed away in Madera on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, with his wife and friends by his side.
He was the director of Respiratory Therapy at Madera Community Hospital for 34 years.
Pat began his career in respiratory therapy at Turlock Community Hospital in 1972, and worked at Scenic General Hospital in Modesto before transferring to Madera Community in 1975.
He was an avid photographer and talented artist, who loved camping, fishing, tending to his magnificent garden, playing his guitar and appreciated every type of music. He quietly and confidently went about his day training the students who passed through his department, joyfully interacting with co-workers and showing great compassion, skill and professionalism in dealing with the thousands of patients he cared for. Pat especially loved being with and teasing his family and friends, particularly his nephews and nieces. He was happy and joyful, always pointing out the fun side of life to everyone around him. No one will forget his contagious, beautiful smile.
Pat was preceded in death by his father, Ken; and brothers, Mike and Dan.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lynn; mother, Bea of Modesto; sisters, Maureen of Modesto, Teresa and her husband, Warren, of Sacramento and Susan of New York; brothers, Jim and his wife, Linda, of Denair and Phil and his wife, Sharon, of Chicago; parents-in-law, LeRoy and Marjorie Hogue of Stockton; brother-in-law, Marty and his wife, Anamaria, of Rohnert Park; sister-in-law, Georgia and her partner, Annie, of Cahuita, Costa Rica; 10 nieces and nephews; and eight great nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 4 at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Madera.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the MCH Foundation, 1250 E. Almond Ave., Madera, CA 93637 for the Pat Young Respiratory Therapy Student Scholarship Fund.
