Quinn A. Young was born in Quitman, Arkansas on July 7, 1925 to James and Mary (Turner) Young and was one of ten children. He passed away after a short illness on September 23, 2011.
Quinn moved to Winton at the age of 16 with his mother and two of his sisters. He started working the next day and did not stop working until January of 2011. He became Chief of Police of Atwater at the age of 25 - which at that time was the youngest Chief in the state of California.
When he passed away he was the oldest living retired Chief of Police at the age of 86. A loving father, grandfather, brother, husband, uncle, and friend who was loved and respected by all.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Romero (Tony) of Turlock; Carol Hickman (Ron) of Merced; and Patricia Walker-Cooperman of Merced; 3 sisters; Wilma Penrod (Brentwood); Geraldine Silveira (Atwater) and Elaine Gomes (Reno); 6 grandsons; Michael Walker (Fowler), James Walker (Fresno) David Hickman (Turlock), Eric Hickman (Merced), Brian Hickman (Merced), Daniel Romero (Turlock) , 1 step-granddaughter, 1 step grandson; 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, September 30, 2011 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church 500 Buena Vista Dr. in Merced. Arrangements are under the direction of Whitton Family Funeral Service in Merced.
