Ray Mathews, 83, of Patterson, passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 25 at Allen Mortuary, 247 N. Broadway in Turlock. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 26, also at Allen Mortuary.
Ray was born to Charles and Laura Mathews in Oklahoma. He attended Patterson schools before he enlisted in the Merchant Marines, then served in the United States Army. After the war, he settled back in Patterson and met and married his wife, Rosemary Kilby, on June 13, 1949.
He was a carpenter for 50 years and was a member of the Manteca Local Union #25. He also belonged to the Kingdom Hall-Jehovah's Witness in Ceres. He was a musician and played the guitar and violin.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rosemary; daughter, Cynthia Homen; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
He is also survived by his twin sister, Faye Williams of El Paso, Texas.
Ray was preceded in death by children, Mike, Roseada and Charles; two sisters; and two brothers.
