Raymond Aschwanden, 92, of Turlock, passed away at St. Francis Assisted Care Home. Raymond was born in Modesto CA to Frank and Louise Aschwanden, one of eight children. He attended Modesto schools and lived most of his life in Stanislaus County. In his teen years Ray began to drive trucks hauling hay, eggs, and produce. In 1942 he joined the Army Air Force and served during World War II in the South Pacific as a gunner on B-17’s. After his military discharge in 1945 he married Febia Moore. Ray was a truck driver for 25 years. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and camping especially in the mountains. He was handy at making toys, furniture and decorations out of wood and metal. Mr. Aschwanden was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Febia, and 7 siblings. He is survived by his two children: Sandra (Jerry) Thompson of Bonanza OR and Michael Raymond Ashwanden of Turlock, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 24th from 4 – 6 pm at Allen Mortuary. A Military Graveside Service will be held at Turlock Memorial Park on Thursday, July 25th at 10 am.
