Robert “Bob” Lewis Townsend, 89, died Friday June 7th, 2013 after a brief illness. Bob was born on October 28, 1923 to Sarah Evelyn (Cox) and James Lester Townsend, in Quapaw, Oklahoma, one of five siblings. He graduated from Lassen High School in Susanville, California, where he was actively involved in band and sports, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. 
He served in the army for three years during World War II. Stationed at Fort Ord in Monterey, he met his wife Nadine at a USO dance. They corresponded while Bob was overseas in the Asian Pacific theater, and they married shortly after his discharge. After the war he began a long career in retail, moving to Turlock in 1967 where he managed the J.C.Penney store until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the local Rotary Club and enjoyed golf, reading, coffee out with friends and time with his family and his dogs.  
Bob is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nadine, daughters Suzanna Townsend (Michael Ganzberger) of Livermore, and Elizabeth (Brian) Cabral of San Jose, and grandchildren Quinn and Sydney Cabral. Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all.
