Rouy O'Shields, 89, of Turlock, passed away Emanuel Medical Center after an extended illness. Rouy was a longtime resident of Turlock. He lived for 20 years at Rainbow Haven and for the last 3 years lived at Bel Air Lodge. Rouy was born near Modesto, CA to Arthur and Fronie Baxter O'Shields. He worked as a farm hand in the fruit industry prior to his military career. He served in the Army in World War II as a radio repairman. His military service took him to the South Pacific, serving in the Northern Solomon Islands, Southern Philippines, and New Guinea. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal, a WW II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and a Philippine Liberation Ribbon. Rouy was one of the organizers of the 316th Signal Company Wing, a group of veterans who kept in touch with each other for many years after the war was over.
Rouy will be recognized with military honors at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery on Thursday, September 1st. Friends may leave memories at www.allenmortuary.com. Memorial contributions in Rouy's name are welcomed for the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1405 E. Linwood Ave., Turlock, CA 95380.
