Ruby Loraine Johnson was welcomed home by Jesus, her Lord, on September 9th, 2018. Born in Oakland on September 1, 1929, she was the only child of Selma and Hans Peter Christensen. The family lived in Oakland where she grew up and graduated from Oakland High School. From a very young age, Ruby loved to draw. Using her artistic talent, Ruby enjoyed a career as a commercial artist for the H.C. Capwell department store. In later years, she served as a Medical Secretary until her retirement.
Married to Edward Johnson in 1951, they enjoyed 62 years of love and friendship. Their three children are Chris Johnson, Carylee Johnson and Meg Willadsen; three grandchildren: Evan Johnson, Katie and Robert Willadsen; and one great-grandchild: Charlotte Willadsen.
Faith in the saving grace of Jesus Christ, and her church activities were a vital part of Ruby’s life. As a member of First Covenant Church in Oakland, CA she served as a deaconess and wedding coordinator. She also used her musical gifts as a pianist for Lincroft Bible Church in New Jersey and Bible Study Fellowship in Pleasanton, CA.
Ruby and Ed moved to Covenant Village in 2007 where they enjoyed several years together in community with both new and life-long friends.
Ruby is predeceased by her beloved husband, Ed Johnson and parents, Selma & Hans Peter Christensen. She will be greatly missed by her three cherished children: Christopher (Jo-Ann) Johnson, Carylee Johnson, Meg (Bud) Willadsen; three adored grandchildren: Evan Johnson, Katherine and Robert Willadsen; a precious great-granddaughter: Charlotte Willadsen; a niece and nephew: Kay (Carl) Ridenour and Stephen Hanson, as well as great-nieces and nephew and several cousins.
She will be remembered for her gracious hospitality, overflowing generosity, strength in adversity, positive outlook and bright smile.

A memorial to celebrate the life of Ruby will be held on Wednesday, September 19 at 2:00 PM in Berg Hall at Covenant Village – 2125 N. Olive Ave., Turlock, CA
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 20th, 2018 from 11 AM – 12 PM at Allen Mortuary located at 247 N. Broadway in Turlock, CA. A Committal Graveside will follow also on Thursday starting at 1:30 PM sharp at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella.
