Wilma Grewell, 84, of Turlock, passed away on Sunday at Turlock Nursing and Rehab. She was born in Carter County, Okla. to Jesse and Lillie Boothby in 1926. In 1939, her family moved to Bakersfield. She met her soon to be husband, Ralph Edward Grewell, harvesting potatoes. They married in Reno, Nev. in 1941. They settled in the Turlock area in the early 1950s. Wilma worked for Hume Cannery and Shasta Motel in Turlock. She mostly helped run the family lumber and trucking business. She enjoyed gardening and always had the prettiest roses on the block.
Wilma is survived by her daughters, Carol (John) O’Bird of Missouri, Linda Nichols of Hilmar and Joann (Terry) Cooper of Turlock; grandchildren, Jeromy Cooper, Ashley Nichols, Matthew Cooper and Ryan Nichols; and great grandchild, Brooklynne Cooper. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 55 years, Ralph Grewell; brothers, Earl Boothby and Lee Boothby; and grandchildren, Sherry Lynn O’Bird and John Michael Edward O’Bird.
Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5 at Allen Mortuary. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 6 at Allen Mortuary, with burial following.
