(Alex Cantatore’s editorial, “Glass half full even if city coffers empty,” which ran in the June 13 issue of the Journal) was … ok! That’s kind of a compliment from me!
You made some good points, but it is this council and the previous council’s fault for the overspending. Over four years ago I was on the budget committee and we told them what was going to happen in the economy and what they had to do regarding benefits and other targeted areas. They basically laughed at us and told us we didn’t know what we were talking about … fast forward four years… we were right!
They spent money they didn’t have and that’s the bottom line… by the way — there is no surplus! It is borrowed money!
