Tuesday marked the start of the Central California Conference Singles Tournament from the Brenda Racquet Club for Turlock and Pitman High.

Unfortunately Turlock's Rebekka Cripe and Maya Young each fell in their respective semifinal matchups.

“They were happy with the way they played, could’ve played better in semi-final match but did the best and that’s all they could do,” said Turlock head coach Linda Bejaran. “Obviously disappointed because we want to make the finals, but they are looking forward to playing together in doubles.”

Cripe won twice then fell to the still undefeated singles player from El Capitan, Jenasis Yarrell, in a 6-0 and 6-0 sweep.

“Jenasis hasn't lost all year,” Bejaran said of Yarrell.

Yarrell had also beaten Michelle Gomez of Turlock in the opening round with a 6-1 and 6-0 final.

Young won her first match then toppled Pitman's Karen Kahlone in the second round, 6-2 and 6-2.

“Maya wasn't even seeded and made the semi-finals,” said Bejaran. “I was kind of hoping Maya might pull it out with her being on the weaker side of the bracket, but it was tough.”

Ashley Byers of Pitman also moved on to the second round before falling. Byers won her first match, 7-5 and 6-0 then lost to Yarrell in the next round.

The CCC doubles tournament will take place at Brenda Athletics Club at 9 a.m. Thursday.
