Wheeland wraps up freshman season at Oklahoma State

Turlock High graduate Vince Wheeland had a learning experience as a freshman pitcher on the Oklahoma State baseball team. Since he was a newcomer, he didn’t get much action, but he was part of a team that went to the NCAA Division I Nashville Regional, where the Cowboys lost 9-2 to Troy and 3-2 to Belmont to end the season on Saturday.

Wheeland, who was an all-state pitcher for the Bulldogs last season with a 13-0 record and a 0.74 ERA, racked up 6 2/3 innings of pitching. He was credited with a 0-1 record, as the right-hander finished his first year of college baseball with five strikeouts. The Cowboys went 35-25 overall and was 25-7 at home.
