One of the most successful seasons in the history of the Turlock High School soccer program came to an end this week, with the Bulldogs bowing out of the first round of the CIF Northern California Regional Tournament.
On Tuesday, Turlock’s boys varsity soccer team, seeded fifth in the Division II bracket took the trip up to Napa to face No. 4 Vintage High School, and lost by a 4-2 score.
The loss came just three days after the Bulldogs fell 2-1 to Davis in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I championship game. Both the section champion and the runner-up in divisions I-IV received automatic berths to the regional tournament.
With the result, the Bulldogs finished the 2025-26 campaign with a 14-5-4 overall. The team went 3-2 in the postseason following a 9-1, first-place record in the Central California Athletic League (CCAL).
The Bulldogs received goals Tuesday from their top two strikers, seniors Fernando Carbajal and Keegan Pires. Carbajal finished the season with a team-high 13 goals, while Pires was second with eight.
The pair of scores on the club’s 10 total shots, including three on-goal, was not enough to mount the steady attack from the Crushers, who were backed by a pair of goals courtesy of Jaden Jaramillo, as well as from Osmar Garcia and Angel Saucedo.
With each men’s and women’s CCAL program now having been eliminated from postseason contention, annual award winners were announced Friday morning.
BOYS ALL-CCAL
After dominating on the scoreboard, this year’s conference awards list was similarly dominated by Turlock High, with three of the four special awards given to Bulldogs.
At the top of the list was Jose Garcia Alonso, who won Coach of the Year as he oversaw the program win a second straight CCAL title.
Winning the top player honor was senior Manuel Guerrero, who scored six goals and assisted on seven scores. In total, he was involved in 19 points over his 18 appearances, while also lending help on the defensive end of the pitch.
Carbajal was named Best Offensive Player with his 13 goals on a whopping 24 shots, becoming notorious for his constant pressure against opposing defensive lines and goalkeepers. Over his 18 matches, he was involved in 27 scoring sequences.
The only non-Bulldog winning a special award was Downey’s Isaac Ferg, who was named Best Defensive Player.
Headlining the All-CCAL First Team was Turlock goalkeeper Kevin Ramirez. The senior recorded 48 saves over 18 games, allowing just 10 goals and pitching seven shutouts. Joining him were teammates Pires, Mario Chavez and Sebastian Chahal, as well as Pitman High’s Noah Shamoon and Christian Flores.
Among those named All-CCAL Second Team were Turlock’s Alex Nava, Mauren Beckes and Michael Cardoso and Pitman’s Giancarlos Nakamura and Alex Vasquez.
Fernando Guevara of Pitman and Eric Sambrano of Turlock were honorable mentions.
