Pride advance 40, Bulldogs 29 to Divisionals

A total of 69 track and field student athletes from Pitman and Turlock high schools will be advancing to the Sac-Joaquin Section Divisionals after many standout performances at the Central California Conference Championships this past Saturday at Golden Valley High.

“We have had a great year so far, but are really only at the half way point,” said Pitman head coach Thad Moren. “We have a core of athletes, both boys and girls, that are ranked at the top of our section. We are busy preparing them to perform at their best the next few weeks in Elk Grove.”

The day was highlighted by the numerous Pride and Bulldog athletes who finished on top and stood at the podium after their respective events.

On the girls varsity side in the 100-meter race, Sarah Romo of Turlock saw the best finish in fifth place with a PR of 12.95 while Pitman’s top finish in the event was Aman Kaur who took 15th.

In the 200m, Katja Guerrero (Turlock) placed third with a time of 26.97 while Pitman saw Ximena Cesa place sixth with a time of 28.14.

Julia Handy (Turlock) placed first in the 400m with a time of 58.77 while Pitman’s Bianca Garcia took fourth with a time of 1:03.61.

In the 800m, Sofia Andres (4th) of Turlock saw the best ending with a PR of 2:33.95 while Pitman’s Hannah Green followed in fifth with a time of 2:34.34.

Mavleen Mann (Pitman) took first in the 1600m race with a PR time of 5:04.65.

Mann also placed first in the 3200m race with a PR of 11:01.52.

Jocelyn Harris (Turlock) saw the best finish for all locals in the 100m hurdles with a third-place result and a time of 15.73. Pitman freshman Makenna Bondshu followed in fourth with a PR time of 17.32.

Turlock’s Bernadette Hollcraft had the best finish in the 300m hurdles, placing third with a time of 50.74. Pitman’s Ricquie Aguilar took fourth with a time of 51.24.

Turlock’s girls 4x1 team took second and Pitman followed in third.

Whitney Barnes of Pitman had the best result in the girls shot put with a distance of 40-feet three-inches.

Pitman owned the girls discus, placing in the top four spots.

The Pride’s Madison King, Khaiya Simpson and Abigail Perry each took second, third and fourth, respectively.

In the girls high jump, Jazmyn Tubbs (Turlock) and Pitman’s Maddy Hall tied with Kaitlynn Perez (Merced) for first with a clearance of 5’1”.

In the triple jump, Pitman saw four of the top five spots.

Cierra Verdone took first after clearing 34’10 and Hall followed in second. Ashlyn Tilby had the best finish for Turlock’s girls with a jump of 32’.25”.

Harris took first in the long jump after clearing 15’8.25” and Alissa Fuentes followed in second (15’7.25”). Verdone of Pitman took third with a 15’6.5”.

In the girls pole vault, Romo took first after clearing 9’5”.

On the varsity boys side, Turlock and Pitman saw plenty of top performers.

Colton Cummings (Turlock) placed first in the 100m race with a PR time of 10.99.

Ty Thomson of Pitman placed first in the 200m race with a PR time of 22.18 and Michael Moore followed in second with a PR of 22.26.

Quincey Williams (Pitman) saw the best finish in the 400m with a second-place finish after clocking in at 50.96.

Pitman’s Jayson Martin and Brent Curiel took third and fourth, respectively, in the 800m.

Curiel took fourth and Martin fifth in the 1600m for the top local finishes in that race.

Gavin Valenzuela of Turlock took fifth in the 3200m race for the best local time. Pitman’s Marcus Helwick was the best Pride finish with a 12th place conclusion.

In the 110m hurdles, Turlock’s Bailey Vandergriff had the best finish for all locals, taking fifth with a time of 16.67. Pitman’s Juan Aceves took seventh with a PR of 16.84.

In the triple jump, William Ashman (Turlock) took first with a PR of 43’8”. Dom Von Waaden saw the best finish for the Pride in the event, taking fifth with a clearance of 37’8”.

Ashman also took first in the long jump after clearing 21’8.75”.

In the pole vault, Silas Fredeen (Turlock) took first with a PR of 15’3”. Jose Sandoval and Nathan Garibay followed in second and third, respectively.

Colton Farro and Matt Phillips of Pitman tied for fourth with a clearance of 13’6”.

In the high jump, Ashman took first after clearing 6’3”. Ty Thomson of Pitman took fourth after clearing 5’11”.

In the discus, Dustin Grein of Turlock saw the best finish, taking third with a throw of 137’6”. Pitman’s Brandon Garcia took sixth with a PR of 131’10”.

In the shot put, Grein took first after hitting 48’3.5”.

Pitman’s Matt Shino took third after clearing 43’7.5”.

In the 4x4 relay, Turlock placed second and Pitman third.

Pitman’s 4x1 relay team of Guillermo Francis, Moore, Williams and Thomson took first with a time of 42.38. Turlock followed in second.

In the 300m hurdles, Vandergriff took second with a time of 40.75. Antonio Ruiz of Turlock followed in third. Pitman’s Donavyn Faria had the best finish for the Pride after taking fifth with a PR of 42.45.
