After not losing a single match against a conference opponent over four years, Pitman High’s Maryn Hall put the cherry on top of her high school volleyball career by winning her third straight Central California Athletic League Most Valuable Player award.
Hall shares this year’s honor with Zaniyah Corneille of Downey High.
The 5-foot-11 Hall, who under Coach of the Year Ari Amini led the Pride to a fourth straight undefeated CCAL campaign while personally going 40-0 in league play in her four varsity seasons, won the top honor after accumulating 497 kills (.315 hitting percentage), 89 serving aces, 312 digs, 25 blocks and 12 assists. Corneille had 587 kills (.366 hitting percentage), 95 aces, 456 digs, 18 blocks and 32 assists in her sophomore campaign.
Hall, a commit to Portland State, shared last year’s MVP honors with Turlock High’s Amelia Spaulding, who once again earned top recognition by being named CCAL Offensive Player of the Year. Spaulding, a junior outside hitter, racked up 345 kills (.335 hitting percentage), 43 aces, 205 digs and 17 blocks.
Pitman’s Aila Reich and Turlock’s Audrey Mensonides also shared Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Reich, like Hall, was a four-year varsity standout at libero and achieved a perfect run in 40 career league contests for the Pride. In her senior season, Reich had 432 digs to go along with 51 assists, 62 aces and 31 kills.
Mensonides, also a senior libero, had 333 digs, 24 assists and 39 aces.
Earning the title of Setter of the Year was Pitman sophomore Izabella Ziencina with a whopping 703 assists — the 14th-most in the Sac-Joaquin Section and second-most amongst those in Division I programs. She also had 139 digs, 48 aces, 24 blocks and 20 kills.
Landing on the All-CCAL First Team was Pitman’s Kayliyah Williams and Alyssa Moreno and Turlock’s Isabella Macias. Second Team honorees included Turlock’s Haley Stiles and Amaya Morales, as well as Pitman’s Shanna Russell. Bella Green of Turlock and Jahnvi Dhillon of Pitman were honorable mentions.
