Pitman volleyball remains atop CCAL

Since dropping their first and only loss in league, Pitman High varsity volleyball has been on a tear in the Central California Athletic League most recently when they captured their fourth straight win over Downey in a 3-0 victory on the road Monday.

It was a blowout from the onset for Pitman when they toppled Downey in the first set, 25-6.

The second set was the closest of them all when Pitman won it 25-12 while the third ended 25-10.

Pitman tallied 30 total kills for the game with junior Brionna Sims adding a team-high nine kills.

As a team, Pitman had 12 aces for the game while they added 51 total digs. Cierra Verdone led all with 13.

Haley Freeman led all Pride players with a team-high 26 assists of the 30 as a team, combined.

The win is also their seventh straight CCAL victory of the year for the Pride who improve to 18-9 overall and 7-1 in league.

They are also currently ranked No. 97 in California.

Pitman will next travel on the road to take on Enochs at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

 

Turlock boys polo still perfect in league

The varsity boys water polo team from Turlock High is still undefeated in league play after they bested Gregori High on Monday, 12-7, to notch their sixth straight win of the year.

Following the win, Turlock’s overall record improves to 11-5 while they go to 6-0 in the CCAL.

Turlock outscored Gregori in the first, 5-2.

The Bulldogs notched one more before the half and they went into the break with a 6-2 lead.

Things got interesting in the third and fourth as Turlock barely outscored Gregori, 6-5.

Turlock goalkeeper Brandon Dhanowa finished with 15 saves. Billy Marchy had five steals and eight different guys combined for the 12 goals for the Bulldogs.

Turlock will next travel to Enochs at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

 

Pride polo currently in second after win over Panthers

Pitman High’s varsity boys water polo team remains in second place in the Central California Athletic League after defeating Modesto High on Monday, 11-5, to secure the season sweep and improve to 5-1 in league play.

The Pride have won seven of their last eight games.

Pitman has allowed seven goals or less in six of their last victories. 

Pitman will next host Gregori at a time yet to be announced Wednesday.

 

Cross Country CCAL Cluster Meet #2

The second Central California Athletic League Cluster Meet for cross country took place last Wednesday from Donnelly Park and when the day ended, the Pitman High girls saw the best finish with a second-place result, trailing only Gregori which won convincingly.

Turlock girls placed fifth out of six schools.

Mavleen Mann of Pitman had the best individual performance, taking second in the three-mile race with a time of 17:49.

Gregori sophomore Madison Kackley clocked in at 17:27, placing first.

Pitman freshman Camila Stephens placed fifth with a time of 19:05.81, just trailing fourth place Eva Rodriguez (19:05).

Turlock’s Sofia Andres had the best finish for all the Bulldogs with a seventh-place result, clocking in at 19:18.

On the varsity boys side, Turlock finished in fourth and Pitman placed sixth.

Turlock’s Uriel Alvarez had the best individual finish for both schools, placing 11th with a time of 16:53. Teammate Eric Hernandez placed in 14th (17:00) and Brody Vecchione took 17th with a time of 17:06.

Pitman’s top finisher was junior Jordan Tasho who clocked in at 17:12, placing 18th.

Tasho’s teammate Bryce Van Allen had the second-best finish for the Pride, finishing in 21st with a time of 17:28.
