Four local wrestlers were crowned champions at the Pitman High girls team captured its third team title at last weekend’s Sac-Joaquin Section Masters meet in Stockton.

Pride seniors Edward Sheeran, Mason Ontiveros, and Carter Vannest each brought home championships on the boys side, while Hughson senior Yzabella Austin captured the lone girls title.

Third-seeded Sheeran delivered a 15-4 major decision shocker when he bested Folsom senior Kai Yi-Berg, who entered the tourney as the top seed in the 144-pound division.

No. 7 Ontiveros registered a 19-4 technical fall over top-seeded senior Evan Hilmen of Del Oro (Loomis) at the 3:34 mark in the 175-pound title bout.

Seventh-seeded Vannest won by technical fall — 17-2 at 5:54 — over No. 5 Brady Wright of Vacaville in the 190-pound final.

Austin, the No. 5 seed in the girls’ 140-pound weight class, toppled No. 1 duly Martinez of Central Catholic (Modesto) and then beat No. 3 Aeryn Cox of Placer (Auburn) 3-0 to claim the crown.

In the team competition, Pitman racked up a total of 165.5 points — well clear of runner-up Lincoln (Stockton) with 125 — to claim the girls second masters title since 2023. Hughson’s girls were 25th with 49.5 points, while Turlock finished 43rd with 32 points. Denair was 47th with 29.5 points and Hilmar was 77th with 10.

Pitman’s boys finished second behind Oakdale, 250-224. Turlock was 13th with 55 points, Hughson 25th with 30.5. and Hilmar 82nd with 4.

The four champions will lead a local contingent of 20 wrestlers in to the CIF State Meet in Bakersfield beginning Thursday.
