For the third straight year, the Pitman High volleyball squad is the Central California Conference champions, this after defeating Turlock High on Tuesday’s Senior Night in a regular season finale at home, (25-9, 25-7 and 25-4).

“Everyone was pumped up for this game. Senior Night in general is always exciting,” Pitman head coach Kristen Pontes said.

The ‘Dogs struggled with stopping anything on defense, missing critical opportunities against a mistake-free squad of Pitman that came out determined to finish the season perfect in league.

The Pride have won 34 consecutive CCC matches, which includes a 42-1 record in the last 43 contests.

“I am very proud of the program and all the success for this season, along with the past few seasons. All the hard work has paid off,” Pontes said. “All the hours in the gym and everything came down to this, the CCC title.”

Pontes is confident that this is one of her strongest squads, but the playoffs will be a different story as it is win or go home against the toughest competition.

“The girls really want it and they battle till the end; it will be fun and we are really looking forward to it. We're going to try and do the best that we have ever done,” Pontes said about the playoffs.

Pitman will begin playoff play next week on Tuesday as they host an opponent yet to be announced at 7 p.m.
