Pitman High middle-distance runner Aubrey Lascano won a pair of individual races and was part of a winning relay team during last week’s second Central California Athletic League meet at Gregori High School in Modesto.

Lascano, who also competed in cross country for the Pride last fall, won the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 30.28 seconds. Later, she won the 3,200 in 11:45.17.

She holds the school’s second-fastest time in the 800 and the third-fastest in the 3,200.

In the 4x800 relay, Lascano teamed with Adelyn Persons, Nayeli Mattison, and Emerson Newton to run a 10:38.49, which was the best mark in the Sac-Joaquin Section at the time.

“She has been doing so amazing,” said Pitman coach Tim McCabe. “From cross country to track, she is having an amazing year and is such a humble and sweet kid.”

Lascano thinks her best event is the 800, and it’s her best opportunity to qualify for the section Masters meet. Her favorite event is the 1,600.

“My best chance would probably be in the 800, but I’d like to lower my time by a couple of seconds,” said Lascano. “I think to qualify for the Masters in either the 1,600 or the 800 would be pretty cool.”

Lascano will have to overcome stiff competition to win a league or divisional title, but she doesn’t really concern herself with that.

“I guess I’m just competing with myself more than anything else, rather than against anyone in particular,” she said.
