MODESTO — On Saturday, John Thurman Field, home of the Modesto Nuts, was covered with Turlock baseball products. Occasionally, the field and dugout had Turlock influences. And the stands, especially during the large-school game, were packed with Turlock supporters.
What was the special occasion?
It was the Modesto Sunrise Rotary’s 22nd Stanislaus County All-Star Classic. Between the small-school and large school games, a total of 15 players from the Turlock area took over the respective rosters, with 10 of them coming from Pitman High and Turlock High. And many of them made solid contributions, like Turlock’s Jeremy McDonald winning the large-school MVP award after striking out six batters in three shutout innings in his West team’s 7-3 win.

As for the small-school game, Denair High and Turlock Christian players helped fill up the West team’s roster. Their team lost 7-1 to the East team.
