Turlock's golf season ends at Masters
Bulldogs accomplish unmatched feat for local teams

The Turlock's boys golf team was coming off an impressive outing at the Division-I South tournament last week and was hoping to carry that momentum into the Sac-Joaquin Section Master’s tournament, only it didn't end the way they hoped.

The season came to a close from the Reserve at Spanos Park on Monday for the entire Turlock team along with Pitman High's Chandler Hedrick, all of whom had qualified a week prior, but in the end, both sides were satisfied with the result, especially Turlock head coach Jason Boswell.

“This has been probably the best team in the last 15 to 20 years,” said Boswell. “I don't feel like these kids have gotten the respect and notoriety they deserve.”

Turlock's accolades speak for themselves and the amazing program that Boswell has helped build and sustain.

His team placed third in the Division I tournament and seventh as a team in the Master’s tournament.

“We beat out Gregori with a tie breaker,” said Boswell about Monday's results at the Master’s. “It is quite a season when you can send your whole team to the Section Final Master’s.”

Turlock ended up with a team score of 401 anchored by low rounds from Dylan Cummings (74) and Connor Old (75).

The lowest team score was Davis with a 382.

Turlock's Fletcher Bacon followed with a 78. Logan Lucero and Arik Bains tied with a score of 87 for the 'Dogs.

Turlock has won six of the last seven Central California Conference titles.

They have finished as runner-ups in the division and had two third place finishes in the division in the last seven years.

“No local team has done that,” Boswell added.

Hedrick of Pitman finished with a score of 79, missing the Nor Cal cut by six strokes after being the lone Pride representative.

“Chandler had a great season and represented Pitman well,” said Pitman head coach Matt Jeans. “There were a lot of good golfers out there that didn’t make the cut. The field was tough, as well as the conditions. I am proud of Chandler on and off the golf course over the past four years. He has proven himself to be a competitor, as well as a leader and role model.”
